Sr Project EngineerHumble, TX, USARS PAY PERIOD IS 15TH & 30THBase + BonusFull TimeCompetitive salary + performance-based incentives; Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with Cigna; 401k Match 5%OVERVIEW:Reporting to Manager, Engineering and Design, the Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for being a technical and project lead on the design and execution of overhead transmission and distribution line projects. This role combines technical leadership and project management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with utility standards and regulatory requirements. The Senior Project Engineer will serve as a primary technical resource for Sales Engineers, Project Engineers, and/or Sales Managers, and ensure high-quality deliverables that support safe and reliable energy delivery.RESPONSIBILITIES:Project & Technical LeadershipDesign and review designs of overhead transmission and distribution line projects (typically 4kV–345kV).Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineering/design/drafting teams, ensuring adherence to industry codes, standards, and client requirements.Ability to serve as the primary technical contact for utility clients, consultants, and project stakeholders when needed.Line Design & EngineeringExperience with structural calculations, including sag-tension analysis, pole/structure loading, and clearance verification using PLS Pole and PLS CADD Software.Ensure compliance with NESC, RUS, IEEE, ASCE, and utility-specific standards (knowledge of CSA a plus).Review and approve drawings, models, and specifications prepared by the team.Project Execution & CollaborationManage multiple projects from concept through construction support.Collaborate with clients, Sales Engineers, Sales Managers, and Operations teams to deliver integrated solutions.Consistently communicate and record project progress through all stages.Support stakeholder engagement efforts as needed.Quality, Safety & ComplianceEnsure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.Promote safety and risk management in all project phases.Support audits, inspections, and client reviews.TeaM DevelopmentMentor junior engineers and designers, providing training in line design principles and tools.Support a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.8+ Years of experience in T&D (Transmission and Distribution) line design.Strong knowledge of T&D design standards (NESC, RUS, IEEE, ASCE, state and utility-specific standards; CSA is a plus).Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and related design tools (experience with SPIDA, Pole Foreman, O-Calc a plus) required.Professional Engineer (P.E.) LicenseExperience with large-scale capital programs and asset lifecycle management preferred (PMP Certification or equivalent project training a bonus).Experience working within a utility and/or EPC preferred.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to solve problems, propose conceptual solutions, and characterize/quantify potential risks effectively and creatively.Proven communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams.Ability to interface with key customer technical contacts to successfully complete project analysis asks and answer customer inquiries on design and field applications.Possess a proactive work style with the proven ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritizePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical requirements listed below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, equipment, and tools.Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and occasional kneeling or crouching, as required.Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20 pounds.Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work safely in the assigned work environment.Meet deadlines while maintaining a commitment to a high level of accuracy and quality in all aspects of work.WORKING CONDITIONS:On-site office-based (Houston, TX) with hybrid flexibility options.Occasional travel for field trips to support installations, attend team meetings and/or trainings, and/or trade shows/technical conferences.Why Join Us?At RS, safety is a core value and a shared responsibility.
