Position HIMS Front Desk Representative Location Durham, NC Job Id 385 # of Openings 1 About the Employer Lincoln Community Health Center, Inc., a federally qualified community health center located in Durham, NC is recruiting a HIMS Front Desk Representative. Fluent in English and Spanish. Durham is known as the Bull City, the City of Medicine, the Tastiest Town in the South, and the Startup Capital of the South. Position Summary The HIMS Front Desk representative is involved in maintaining medical records, including maintaining associated logs and records in accordance with established priorities and procedures. The role receives, validates, and handles requests for health information, and performs a variety of clerical duties such as greeting customers, answering departmental phones, handling facsimiles, and release‑of‑information duties. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Education High School graduate or GED equivalent, supplemented by college business classes; associate's degree in health information management or a related field preferred. 1 to 3 years clerical/receptionist experience. Prior Health Information Services (Medical Records) experience in Release of Information preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) – not required. Computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office. Minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute. Some knowledge of medical terminology desirable. Experience Exceptional knowledge of confidentiality and release‑of‑information policies, federal and state statutes regarding authorized release of medical information from patient records. Attention to detail and ability to maintain focus amid frequent interruptions. Ability to apply laws and regulations on confidentiality and release of health information (e.g., NC State Laws, HIPAA). Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate and interact with peers, physicians, patient care personnel, and the public. Ability to work independently under pressure with time constraints and minimal supervision. A keen analytical ability, detail oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and use independent judgment to carry out responsibilities without supervision. Ability to navigate patient registration and EMR systems efficiently to find needed information. Ability to organize and prioritize work, follow through with tasks, and make decisions without direct supervision. Knowledge of modern office equipment: PC, registration and electronic health record (EHR) systems, scanner, printer, facsimile, telephone, copier, etc. Ability to examine records and verify patient identification. Ability to evaluate and process documents accurately. Ability to examine standard and non‑standard forms and determine proper handling and placement. Minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute.
