JOB TITLE: High School Mandarin TeacherSTATUS: Full Time, ExemptREPORTS TO: Site Director/CoordinatorORGANIZATION OVERVIEWVaughn Next Century Learning Center (“Vaughn”), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district’s low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent.POSITION OVERVIEWThe High School Mandarin Teacher is responsible for providing rigorous, engaging, and standards-aligned instruction that develops students' proficiency in Mandarin while fostering critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and global cultural awareness. Through research-based instructional practices, differentiated learning experiences, and meaningful assessment, the teacher creates a safe, inclusive, and academically challenging classroom where all students are empowered to achieve high levels of success. The teacher maintains accurate student records, monitors academic progress, and communicates regularly with students, families, and colleagues to support student achievement.As an active member of the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center community, the High School Mandarin Teacher collaborates with colleagues to strengthen instructional programs, participates in professional learning and school committees, and contributes to a positive school culture aligned with Vaughn's mission and values.
