Sous Chef – Job Description

Position: Sous Chef

Job Summary:
The Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef or Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, preparing high-quality food, supervising kitchen staff, and ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are consistently followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations and food preparation.
• Prepare, cook, and present menu items according to recipes and established standards.
• Supervise and coordinate the activities of cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers, and other kitchen staff.
• Ensure proper portioning, presentation, and quality of food.
• Monitor food inventory and assist with ordering and receiving supplies.
• Maintain appropriate food temperatures and proper food storage procedures.
• Ensure the kitchen, equipment, and work areas are clean and sanitary.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Train and assist kitchen employees with food preparation and proper procedures.
• Help manage kitchen operations in the absence of the Executive Chef.
• Minimize food waste and maintain proper inventory control.
• Assist with menu preparation and daily specials as needed.
• Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Lead Cook, or experienced Cook preferred.
• Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.
• Ability to lead and work effectively with a kitchen team.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move kitchen supplies as required.
