Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 400 campus buildings with approximately 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, and Life Safety Services. Housing Support maintains a safe and secure environment for the 9000 students living in 37 residence halls and 700 apartments. Trade skills include cabinetmaking, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, electronics, sheet metal, roofing, painting and HVAC. We identify, estimate, plan and complete minor facility renovation projects via our own Housing Support internal shops, Facilities Services Construction Shops, and/or private contractors. We provide year-round, 24-hour customer service to our resident students and Housing staff. Housing Support also conducts all scheduled facility maintenance inspections within its facilities. This unit is the primary point of contact for the residence halls and dispatches the request to the appropriate shop.

A sign-on bonus of $4,668 is available for the successful applicant of this position, paid in 2 installments within 12 months of hire: $2,334 within 30 days of hire date and $2,334 12 months after hire date. Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment, installs and repairs electrical systems and components from the load side of the service transformer to the last device. Responds to daily emergency calls as applicable and keeps lead person and supervisor well informed of daily work progress. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; Management Preferences Experience in electrical trades. Demonstrated ability to interpret electrical schematics and blueprints on building systems and equipment. Experience working in compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and NFPA70E. Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems. Ability to demonstrate great teamwork and communication skills with co-workers and Housing staff.
