Ambulatory Weekend Oncology Nurse

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse with specialized chemotherapy certification for an outpatient oncology clinic located in Los Angeles, California. This role is integral to providing comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients undergoing various cancer treatments. This position focuses on back‑office oncology operations, requiring strong proficiency in managing treatment workflows, administering oncology medications, and performing essential nursing procedures such as infusions, injections, and IV insertions. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in patient education and support, ensuring optimal care throughout their treatment journey.

Key Responsibilities Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapies, interferons, interleukins, hormonal therapy, and other oncology medications via various routes (IV push, continuous infusion, oral).

Perform IV insertions, phlebotomy, and central line/PICC line care, including blood draws and accessing/managing implanted ports.

Manage and monitor continuous infusions, including infusion pump management.

Assess, monitor, and manage patient side effects and complications related to cancer treatment, such as extravasation, anaphylaxis, acute tumor lysis syndrome, neutropenic precautions, altered mental status, sepsis, hemorrhage, edema, neuropathy, nausea/vomiting, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, and alterations in skin and mucous membranes.

Provide comprehensive patient and family education and support regarding treatment plans, medications, and self‑care strategies.

Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values to the healthcare team.

Handle body fluids post‑chemotherapy and manage/dispose of cytotoxic spills safely.

Utilize Epic for accurate and comprehensive charting and documentation of patient care.

Provide care for patients with a wide range of cancer diagnoses, including but not limited to breast, lung, colorectal, prostate, ovarian/uterine, kidney, bladder, brain, liver, pancreatic, leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, melanoma, and ear/nose/throat cancers.

Required Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in Oncology.

Active Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

Proficiency in Epic electronic health record (EHR) system.

Preferred Qualifications Outpatient Oncology experience.

Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification.

Prior infusion experience.

Skills & Competencies Clinical Skills: Expertise in chemotherapy administration, proficient IV insertion and phlebotomy skills, skilled in central line/PICC line care and port management, competency in managing infusion pumps, adept at administering various oncology‑related medications, strong ability to recognize and manage acute oncology‑related conditions and side effects, experience with neutropenic precautions and wound care, proficiency in cytotoxic spill management and body fluid handling.

Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with Epic EHR system.

Soft Skills: Excellent communication and patient education abilities, strong organizational and time management skills, ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented outpatient setting, compassionate and patient‑centered approach to care.

Shift Details Shift Type: Day

Hours: 10‑hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Days: Tuesday – Friday (4 days per week)

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Assignment Dates: June 29, 2026 – September 28, 2026

Licensing Requirements Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California. License must be active at the time of submission; pending licenses will not be accepted.
