DEFINITION: Keeps school district buildings in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions).QUALIFICATIONS

This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

• Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum hallways, stairs and office space.
• Follows established procedures or verbal instructions, selects proper chemicals and supplies and effectively and proper sanitization and safely cleans the hallways, stairways, offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, auditorium/gymnasiums, bathrooms, drinking fountains, benches etc.
• Dust/clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, walls, blackboards, erasers, etc.
• Clean, wash, sanitize bathrooms and drinking fountains
• Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, waxing, buffing etc.
• Dispose of waste/trash into proper containers
• Carpets are to be cleaned by vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing and disinfecting as instructed.
• Assure that work assignment areas are free of hazardous objects, such as protruding mop/broom handles
• Remove dirt, dust, grease film etc. from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
• Notifies supervisor concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating and ventilating equipment
• Sweep and clean outside walks and cleans gates properly
• Required to assist other custodial personnel when necessary
• Minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
• Conforms to safety standards as directed
• Performs other duties as may be deemed necessary including but not limited to; washing windows, washing down buildings and painting.

FOR EMPLOYMENT:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (KSAs are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or training.)

Knowledge of:

Equipment, materials, and supplies used in cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining facilities;
Safe and proper methods of using/mixing chemicals, solvents, and other potentially hazardous materials;
Agency policies, procedures, and practices related to custodial services;
Cleaning and disinfecting procedures; and
Appropriate tools or equipment for cleaning specific areas, or performing routine maintenance tasks.
Skills:
Follow established procedures; and
Follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to:
Use cleaning equipment and tools properly and safely;
Operate small hand and power tools properly and safely;
Operate electric floor cleaning and maintenance equipment properly and safely;
Perform snow and trash removal; and
Communicate courteously with others.

Certifications and Licenses:

Experience and Training:

High School Diploma or equivalent (if none at time of hire - Must sign an agreement that states they will enroll in our Adult Ed program within 6 months of date of hire and complete the program within 1 year of date of hire)

Must be at least 18 years of age

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Strength and stamina to stand, walk, and climb stairs and ladders; stamina and flexibility to stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl; strength, dexterity, and stamina to use hands and arms to reach, grasp, and open containers, and to operate hand and power tools, floor cleaning, polishing, and other equipment; ability to periodically work in confined spaces; frequent moving or lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasional moving of objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Ability to appropriately handle stress and interact with others, including supervisors, coworkers, clients, and customers. Regular and consistent punctuality and attendance.

Working Conditions:

Most of the work is performed indoors, but some outside work is required. Incumbents are exposed to moderately disagreeable working conditions to include dust, dirt, odors, fumes, heat and cold due to outside weather conditions, and to unsanitary conditions such as those found in restrooms.

BloodBorne Pathogens: An encounter with blood or other bodily fluids may occur in this line of work, you will be expected to know and follow the safety steps in the safety training provided annually.
