Unit Information This unit is comprised of Labor & Delivery (L&D) and a separate L&D triage area. The team includes 24‑hour perinatologists, neonatologists, anesthesiologists (dedicated to OB), obstetric physicians, and two groups of midwives. It handles high‑risk ante‑partum and intrapartum cases with 16 LDR beds, 8 ante‑partum outpatient beds, 4 NST bays and 3 pre‑op/post‑op beds. There are 3 dedicated L&D ORs for scheduled C‑sections and unscheduled cases such as cerclage placement or removal, as well as emergent cases in laboring patients. Nurses receive training as pre‑op, intraoperative (circulator), PACU, and newborn care for all OR cases. The unit cares for triage patients, ante‑partum (outpatient and inpatient), intrapartum, pre‑op and post‑op patients, and newborns after delivery. Over 5,500 deliveries are performed annually.
Responsibilities Provide pre‑operative nursing care for scheduled and unscheduled C‑sections.
Serve as intraoperative (circulator) nurse during all L&D OR cases.
Act as PACU nurse for all L&D OR cases.
Manage newborn care immediately following delivery.
Asses and treat triage patients and ante‑partum patients (outpatient and inpatient if high‑risk or unstable).
Provide intrapartum, pre‑op, and post‑op nursing care.
Support team’s clinical goals and maintain high standards of patient safety.
Requirements Education: Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Experience: One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Licensure & Certification: Current RN license in Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced life support (ACLS, PALS) may be required for certain departments such as OR, ambulatory surgery, pediatrics/PICU, PACU, and GI lab.
