Job Description
Middle school ELA teachers are responsible for using research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students. Middle school teachers must collaborate with their school-based team, the K-8 Director of ELA, and the Middle School Instructional Coach throughout the year to continually improve students’ experience and performance. Teachers should be well-versed in Massachusetts Middle School English Language Arts and Literacy Standards, Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices, WIDA Standards, and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.

Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Education, or Related Field

Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification English Grades 5-8

SEI Endorsement

Preferred Education/Experience

Master’s Degree in Education and/or English

3 or more years of middle school teaching experience

Experience working in an urban public school setting

Experience working with students with disabilities and multilingual learners preferred.

Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in another language in addition to English.

Essential Duties

Plan and facilitate lessons aligned with the Massachusetts English Language Arts and Literacy Curriculum Frameworks and district-provided curricula.

Use all available district-provided technology curricula to create engaging science lessons that are aligned with 21st-century skills.

Manage classroom behavior using Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students, minimize disruptions, and foster a sense of belonging.

Incorporate social-emotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging, inclusion, self-confidence, team-building, and informed decision-making.

Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for multilingual learners.

Collaborate and co‑plan with Special Education and ESL teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and English Learners.

Using evidence‑based, culturally and linguistically sustaining instructional practices to provide equitable opportunities for grade‑level learning.

Administer assessments and utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target students’ academic and linguistic needs, including MCAS and ACCESS, as well as district‑wide formative and summative assessments.

Facilitate students’ literacy needs by providing lessons and activities that support the development of foundational literacy skills.

Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners.

Incorporate language activities that align with the WIDA Standards into content instruction, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, to meet the needs of multilingual learners.

Utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target the academic and linguistic needs of students.

Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning.

Communicate with students’ families regularly using culturally responsive strategies that promote two‑way conversations.

Assist in ordering and managing supplies necessary for science classrooms.

Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development relevant to the challenges of urban education to close opportunity gaps.

Proctor assessments for students on exams, including formative and summative assessments, MCAS, and ACCESS.

Collaborate with school adjustment and guidance counselors to support students’ social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are consistently and adequately delivered.

Contribute to school‑wide initiatives and events that may be assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principals, and the K-8 Director of ELA and Literacy.

Salary/Benefits
Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. SY 26‑27.

Pay Range: $65,178 - $125,654.

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $65,178 to $125,654 Per Year
