The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for prompt and accurate performance of routine, complex and specialized clinical laboratory procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. The Medical Laboratory Technician demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to patients including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.

• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses ability to access data, interpret age-specific needs and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures.
• Meets mutually agreed upon performance goals/objectives established annually as listed on the Performance Management Plan.
• Displays courteous behavior and cooperative relationships with customers and co-workers.

JOB SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE COMPETENCIES:

Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and

• automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology,
• Immunology, and any other discipline as introduced into the laboratory
• Performs testing on pending laboratory specimens, completes work as assigned, and reviews or resolves
• any pending tests to the next shift.
• Performs proficiency testing as needed.
• Calls and documents critical values within time limits established.
• Actively participates in the training and orientation of new employees.
• Actively participates in the quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives of the department.
• Reports results accurately in computer with less than 2 errors per year which require a corrected report. Performs and verifies Quality Control results accurately/timely, and documents corrective action to resolve
• any QC outliers.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures as requested by
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager or Laboratory Director.

Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (MT), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Biological sciences or related field of study preferred. Will accept an associate degree in a laboratory science or be qualified under CLIA guidelines for Medical Laboratory Technician with an approved National Certification for MT.

• Three to five years of experience preferred, but a recent graduate is acceptable.
• Recent graduate must be eligible to sit for MT or equivalent certification exam as MT (ASCP or AMT) and is required within 180 days of hire.
• Good communication skills and basic computer skilled needed.
