Job Description
Meets all requirements of a RN Level I
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing cardiology services, including supervising, assessing and managing patients presenting for nuclear cardiology stress tests, treadmill stress tests and stress echocardiograms.
Reviews testing orders and determine test can be conducted according to protocols.
Review Baseline EKG to determine safety of conducting test.
Assesses patient prior to conducting test to determine if you can proceed safely with test and appropriateness of test type. Explains testing procedure to patient.
Conducts test according to appropriate protocol. Observes patient and monitors appropriate data in effort to maintain patient safety. Records data and documents impression of data gathered per EKG protocol.
Gives direction to nuclear and cardiac technicians as necessary. Discusses results or concerns with physician as necessary to maintain patient safety. Responds to emergencies including use of ACLS guidelines. Enters results in appropriate computer programs. Adheres to OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
Must communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians and patient. Maintains teamwork environment.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITES: Assist with IV starts and phlebotomy collection. Assist with rooming process in nursing clinic. Maintains code cart and assists with code cart training for staff. All other job duties as assigned.
Education
High School Graduate (or equivalent) Graduate of a state accredited school of nursing
Nursing (BSN) preferred
Experience
Prior experience in cardiovascular nursing and stress testing, preferred
Two years of cardiology/telemetry experience preferred
Certification & Licensures
RN Nursing License in Virginia required
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required *
ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
* New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation
Qualifications
Must have strong assessment skills and be able to make independent decisions based upon nursing assessment
Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for interacting with patients, employees, members of the medical staff, local business leaders and the community
Ability to make a great first impression and sustain it; employ tact, diplomacy and compassion with all types of people; maintain cooperative relationships with staff members, patients and physicians; prioritize duties appropriately, maintain privacy with information according to HIPAA guidelines; perform functions with accuracy and integrity
