As a Public Health Registered Nurse at the Twiggs County Health Department, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals working to protect the health and well-being of communities across the state by supporting vital public health initiatives. Demonstrates knowledge of and exercises good judgment in the execution of patient care protocols.

Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing and interpret the results to direct treatment.

Facilitates patient decision making by providing health education, counseling, and tools.

Provides thorough documentation of medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referrals, education, and consultations in the electronic medical record system.

Performs women’s wellness services, contraceptive counseling, and contraceptives according to protocol.

Administers tuberculosis testing, interprets results and works with the TB Program Coordinator to support follow-up and treatment.

Provides child health, vision screening and supports the provision of other primary care services as needed.

Performs onsite waived lab testing offered by the HD, performs wet preps, and participates in lab QA/QI.

Responsible for maintaining knowledge of programs and services available through the Department of Public Health and external agencies and providing referrals to eligible infants, children, and adults.

Consults with and refer patients to physicians and other care providers as indicated.

Promote public health in the community through education about resources and programs.

Participates in emergency preparedness planning and response activities.

Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of nursing experience and completion of a PHN course within one year of hire and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification; or one (1) year of experience at the lower-level PH Registered Nurse 1 (HCP190) or position equivalent.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Knowledge of Ga DPH Nurse protocols.
