About the Unit

• A 20‑bed Intensive Care Unit with a 2:1 patient‑to‑nurse ratio
• Focus on open‑heart and stroke care
• Active precepting of nursing students who frequently return as RNs

The ICU Registered Nurse serves as the patient and family advocate, applying the nursing process, critical thinking, scientific judgment, and leadership to deliver safe, high‑quality care. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, adheres to state licensure regulations, promotes Methodist Excellence, and serves as a role model for professionalism and teamwork.

Develop and implement individualized plan of care (nursing diagnoses, goals, teaching plans)

Monitor patient status, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans promptly

Prioritize and coordinate tasks, ensuring efficient flow and timely care

Maintain accurate, complete documentation in the medical record, covering all nursing process steps

Communicate with physicians, allied health, and families using verbal, written, and electronic methods, including SBAR and hand‑off protocols

Supervise and delegate to unlicensed personnel, complying with Texas Board of Nursing rules for delegated tasks

Adhere to safety policies, utilize appropriate equipment, and report unsafe conditions promptly

Engage in quality improvement activities, data collection, and implementation of initiatives

Associate’s Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Minimum 6 months of clinical experience as an RN

1 year of acute care experience strongly preferred

Current RN license in Texas or RN Compact license with Texas affidavit within 90 days

Demonstrated ability to deliver critical care, medication administration, fall and infection prevention, hourly rounding, and AIDET principles
