Outpatient Oncology Clinic Nurse - Full Time

Position Overview

Registered Nurse – Radiation Oncology Clinic at Duke Cancer Center (North Durham).

Shift Information

Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Clinic Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.

Apply the nursing process to assess patients, develop individualized plans of care, and document all interventions.

Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers.

Act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.

Monitor and initiate corrective actions to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.

Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain required competencies.

Serve as preceptor and mentor other staff and formal learners.

Participate in clinical or operational performance‑improvement activities.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of RN scope of practice and the nursing process.

Ability to assess and manage the needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.

Strong communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

Competency in documenting and communicating pertinent information using electronic and paper records.

Proficiency in BLS and other specialized life‑support requirements.

Understanding of infection‑control procedures and safety precautions.

Ability to operate within regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., TJC).

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited BSN program (or exception for specific dates as noted).

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience.

Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina; BLS required.
