Engineering work related to developing procurement and application specifications for design, construction, installation, and operation of the electrical distribution utility system. Primary responsibilities include review and management of construction specifications, system materials specifications, and equipment service reliability. Knowledge of material and equipment testing and analysis will be required to determine failure causes while providing recommendations to mitigate future failures.

Additionally, they will collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and maintain electric design and service standards while promoting safe and efficient system operations through technical guidance and training for designers, lineworkers, and operations personnel. The role will provide technical services and consultation to other engineers and staff to guide budgets and capital improvement projects. This role will provide oversight and review of similar work for lower level Electrical Engineers.

Performs professional engineering work in the design and application of electric utility distribution equipment and installation practices. May also support design and process improvement through participation in industry organizations.
Prepares and administers contracts with outside agencies to perform various construction activities and install equipment per Utilities Light and Power construction standards.
Conducts studies and develops information as needed to determine system design and customer loading guidelines.
Conducts electric system protection coordination studies and prepares work orders for application of protective devices.
Coordinates work activities with, and may provide technical support to, other Light and Power projects and personnel. May supervise or coordinate the work of Level I and II Electrical Engineers, drafters, or technicians.
Performs research, studies, and utilizes industry knowledge and connections to evaluate materials, equipment, and procedures for safety, reliability and effectiveness.
Using knowledge of electrical engineering and related disciplines, prepares and revises specifications and standard drawings for electric material and equipment, designating parts and materials acceptable for specific uses.
May participate on national and international industry working groups or standards making bodies as a means of gaining a broader understanding of design impacts to manufacturers and other users.
Prepares work orders and construction plans for major field installation projects and special design projects requiring professional engineering expertise.
May perform electric system long range planning studies.
May develop application and field installation standards and guidelines for the installation of fiber optic communications.
May design substation equipment additions and upgrades.
May provide project management functions such as vendor and contractor coordination, reporting, scheduling, inspection, testing, and final commissioning.
Prepares stock item descriptions consistent with materials specifications and evaluates vendors.
Leverages all resources and is creative in ways of learning for self to continue adapting to changing issues and trends.

Ability to communicate at executive level and influence effectively.
Ability to apply engineering skills to assist with electric system long-range studies and planning.
Skilled in the use of GIS, engineering, computer-aided drafting, web content/photo editing, spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Excellent customer service and co-worker relations skills.
College degree or equivalent work experience. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Eight years of progressively responsible engineering experience in an electric utility.

Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training
~ Professional Engineering license desirable.
