Dietitian - Paediatrics - Nutrition and Dietetics

Job Overview

This position coordinates the nutritional care of patients by completing nutritional assessments, preparing nutrition care plans, recommending nutritional therapies, and monitoring the effectiveness of nutritional care. The role provides nutrition education to promote improved health, complies with regulatory requirements, conducts and participates in community education, marketing, and public relations efforts, attends committee meetings, and participates in in‑services and continuing education programs.

Education

Required – Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.

Work Experience

Required – None.

Preferred – 1 year of clinical work experience with knowledge of normal and therapeutic nutrition, nutrition screening, and support principles, and modified diets.

Certifications

Required – Registered Dietitian status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Current licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist status with LBEDN.

Preferred – Certification in a specialty area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.

Proficiency with Windows‑style applications, various software packages specific to the role, and keyboard use.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Strong personal commitment to professional development and maintaining evidence‑based clinical services.

Excellent analytical skills to assess nutritional status and develop appropriate care plans based on identified problems.

Excellent organizational and prioritization skills to meet frequent deadlines.

Ability to travel between facilities.

Job Duties

Assesses patients’ nutritional needs and creates nutrition care plans.

Provides nutritional education and counseling.

Documents records completely and accurately.

Supports departmental goals.

Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, adapting explanation of services, requesting permissions, and communication style.

Other related duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium work level: Exerting 20–50 pounds of force occasionally, 10–25 pounds of force frequently, and greater than negligible force up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. This is more demanding than sedentary work. The role requires walking or standing to a significant degree, pushing and/or pulling arm or leg controls, or working at a production pace that involves constant pushing or pulling of materials. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area and may be exposed to communicable diseases, hazardous medications, or hazardous waste through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and disposal of contaminated waste.

The incumbent remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility, ensuring compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards.
