CNC MACHINIST - AEROSPACE - 1st & 2nd SHIFT

CNC Machinist
This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC machines to produce small, precision components to tight tolerances. You will perform detailed in-process inspections, interpret blueprints and GD&T specifications, and make tool offsets and minor program edits to ensure consistent, high-quality output in a fast-paced machining environment.
Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC machines to produce small, precision parts to tight tolerances.
Perform changeovers and adjust tooling to meet different job requirements and part specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T specifications to understand part geometry, tolerances, and machining requirements.
Conduct in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensional accuracy.
Perform quality checks to ensure parts meet tight tolerance requirements and aerospace-level quality standards.
Make tool offsets and minor program edits as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality.
Troubleshoot machining issues, including dimensional deviations, surface finish problems, and tooling wear, and implement corrective actions.
Operate related equipment such as drill presses and other machining tools as needed to support production.
Use inspection tools and follow established quality inspection procedures to document measurements and maintain compliance.
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and maintain a safe, efficient work area.
Essential Skills

At least 2+ years of experience working with CNC machines.
Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC Robodrill machines or similar CNC machining centers.
Experience with CNC lathes, Swiss CNC, or Swiss machining environments.
Proficiency in performing machine changeovers and adjusting tooling.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T specifications.
Strong understanding of tight tolerance machining and quality checks, particularly for precision and aerospace-type components.
Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, and other precision inspection tools.
Ability to perform in-process inspections and document results accurately.
Experience making tool offsets and minor CNC program edits at the machine control.
Troubleshooting skills for machining issues, including identifying and correcting quality or dimensional problems.
Familiarity with drill press operation and general machine operating practices.
Commitment to following quality inspection procedures and maintaining high standards of workmanship.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience working with Swiss machines or as a Swiss machinist.
Experience in aerospace machining or other industries requiring tight tolerances and rigorous quality standards.
Comfort working with various inspection tools and measurement methods beyond basic micrometers and calipers.
Ability to adapt quickly to different jobs, parts, and machining setups with minimal supervision.
Willingness to complete mandatory training on a different shift before transitioning to the regular schedule.
Prior experience as a traveler or contractor in machining roles is beneficial, especially with minimal training needs.

Work Environment
This position is on 2nd shift, typically running from 3:24 p.m. to 1:54 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with additional work on Fridays as needed. A 10% shift differential applies to this shift. There is mandatory training for the first two weeks on a 1st shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., depending on skill level and specific position. The environment is a machining and manufacturing setting using CNC Robodrill machines, CNC lathes, Swiss CNC equipment, drill presses, and a range of precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and pin gauges. Travelers are welcome and may receive a daily per diem, with assignments typically lasting 4 months and potential for extension. The work involves standing at machines, handling precision components, and consistently working with tight tolerances in a quality-driven, production-focused facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Machesney Park, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
