About the role
This is a genuinely rare-scope role for its level: you’ll be the sole owner of the day-to-day People function for 50+ employees based in 10+ countries — people operations, payroll, recruitment, and employee support — working directly with the founders. You’ll inherit a well-documented foundation: a global HRIS (Rippling), a documented payroll and compliance calendar with per-country runbooks, and established external providers and advisors.

What you’ll do

Global payroll: run the end-to-end payroll cycle across the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, the UK, France (via provider), and Germany and Malaysia (via EOR) — inputs, processing, reconciliation against budget, approvals, statutory lodgements, and post-run steps, following the established calendar and runbooks.

Payroll-adjacent programs: quarterly bonus calculations and processing; ESOP administration support (grants, vesting, leaver treatment, ESS reporting); 401(k) administration with the plan provider.

People operations: own onboarding and offboarding end-to-end (contracts, right-to-work, systems access, final pay, benefits administration including US open enrollment and leave, records, and verification letters).

Recruitment: run the full lifecycle — job ads, sourcing, LinkedIn applicant review, screening, interview coordination, ATS data integrity, references, and offers.

Employee relations & difficult conversations: act as first point of contact for all employee matters; support performance conversations, exits, and separation agreement negotiations across jurisdictions with maturity and discretion, escalating to external counsel where needed.

Compliance in a global setup: execute statutory obligations per jurisdiction to hard deadlines.

Founder support: people reporting, headcount and cost data, and quarterly board input preparation.

What you’ll bring

3+ years in People Operations / HR Generalist roles with hands-on payroll experience — you have personally run payroll cycles, ideally multi-state US and internationally.

You can hold difficult conversations — performance, exits, sensitive employee matters — with judgment and discretion.

Compliance mindset: statutory deadlines are non-negotiable to you; you work from calendars and runbooks and verify rather than assume.

HRIS fluency — Rippling experience a significant advantage.

Extreme organisation and follow-through in a solo-operator environment with minimal supervision; you document as you go and know when to pull in external experts.

Comfort working across time zones with a globally distributed team.
