Railroad Laborer -**NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / NIGHT SHIFT**

Position Description The Maintenance of Way (MOW) Track Worker-level employees are responsible for performing a variety of physically demanding tasks involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of railroad tracks and associated infrastructure. Working as a team they install and replaces railroad ties, rails, track material and components, and ballast while ensuring the proper alignment and safety of the rail system. The job requires the use of both hand tools and power equipment to accomplish tasks. Workers may also assist in the operation of heavy machinery to complete various construction and maintenance tasks. This role involves outdoor work in all weather conditions and often requires travel to remote job sites. The position demands physical strength, endurance, and the ability to lift heavy materials, bend, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods. A high school diploma or equivalent is typically preferred, though not always required. Previous experience in construction or railroad maintenance is beneficial but not mandatory. MOW Track Workers play a key role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of the rail transportation network and must be willing to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary. Pervious construction experience and/or training preferred
Valid drivers license and clean driving record required, CDL or ability to obtain is a plus
Participate in client specific trainings and annual refreshers to obtain necessary credentials to perform work on their sites
Complete MSHA Part 48 New Miner Training and annual refresher training
Education, Training, and Experience:
High school diploma or GED (preferred but not always required)
Vocational training or coursework in construction (a plus, not mandatory)
On-the-job training provided by employer
Safety training provided by the company, including:
CN On-Track Safety Training
Site-specific orientation and hazard awareness
No railroad specific prior experience required; willingness to learn and perform manual labor is key
Experience in physical or outdoor labor (e.g., Familiarity with construction tools and equipment is helpful but not mandatory
Physical Work Activities:
Lifting and carrying heavy tools, materials, and track components
Tool use and operation:
Hanling hydraulic or pneumatic equipment (spike drivers, spike pullers, rail drills, etc)
Installing, removing, and aligning rails and ties
Driving spikes and fasteners into railroad ties
Cutting and welding rail sections
Installation of various railroad material and components
Removal of dirt, rock, debris, ice, snow and other material to clean track
Walking long distances on uneven, rocky or sloped surfaces (ballast, gravel)
Climbing onto equipment or embankments
Maintaining balance while work on or near equipment
Working near or next to, assisting with, or observing the operation of heavy equipment and machinery

Environmental Exposures:
Working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)
Risk of sun exposure
Risk of extreme cold exposure
Vibration from hand tools and mobile equipment
Exposure to exhaust fumes from machinery or welding operations
Chemical exposure:
Contact with lubricants, fuels, solvents, or creosote-treated wood.
Working near moving trains or equipment
Tripping hazards from uneven ground, tools, or materials
Potential for cuts, crush injuries, or repetitive strain injuries
Night and shift work:
Potential for working irregular hours, including overnight shifts or extended workdays
