Head of Project Management

Overview Vigor Marine Group is an established, innovative, integrated partner with a national footprint in marine maintenance and modernization, marine fabrication, and marine services. With four shipyards, six dry docks, and more than 20,000 feet of pier space on or near U.net.
This position has full authority and responsibility for project profits and losses and manages all aspects of assigned ship repair projects. The individual provides primary customer interface throughout the project. Through project team members, manages the application of labor and materials to achieve timely, better-than-bid results and assure customer satisfaction.

Plans, estimates, negotiates, staffs, directs the work, and reconciles final billings on assigned projects. As the top decision maker on the project, resolves internal issues that arise over productive, safe management of the project.

Meets or exceeds customers\' realistic expectations for quality, productivity and safety, and manages the customer relationship through changes in scope and price to assure continuing satisfaction and profitable project closure.

Resolves issues with customers, owners, Port authorities, and other parties. Represents the Company fairly and consistently when interacting with customers.

Works with the Contracting & Estimating Department to estimate, plan, execute and settle projects; Interprets specifications, plans project sequencing, coordinates phases to prevent delays and avoid rework; ensures change order requests and CFRs are properly written and approved before handing to the Project Management team.

Consults with supervision, project management staff, inspectors, and material suppliers to resolve repair problems and improve methods.

Plans, coordinates and directs production activities for assigned projects; ensures appropriate staffing and monitors progress for bid performance.

Prepares periodic management reports on work progress, materials used, costs, and adjusts schedules as indicated by reports.

Maintains effective working relationships with craft workers, customers, and contract administrators; Leads postmortem reviews of completed projects and disseminates lessons learned to capture best practices for future work.

Monitors worker safety and environmental concerns and resolves issues accordingly.

Assesses and documents overall performance of direct reports, provides feedback, and supports development activities.

Manages or oversees subcontractor and/or vendor performance, sets expectations, and drives accountability to protect project profitability.

Monitors progress using earned value management techniques and reports on project performance.

advanced degree preferred in ship repair-related field (e.g., marine engineering).

Minimum ten (10) years of progressively complex ship repair and production knowledge.

Minimum ten (10) years of project management experience, including at least one large project, with proven success in planning, staffing, coordinating, and profitably executing multi-trade, labor-intensive projects.

Financial acumen as applied to labor-intensive projects.

Strong knowledge of ship systems and construction/repair sequencing; systems approach to planning and execution.

Ability to manage labor in a multi-craft, unionized environment.

Contract, specification and print interpretation skills; Experience assisting with overall management of the Ship Repair project management department and leading special projects.
