University Counselor - Part Time

Engineering a world of possibilitiesThis part-time University Counselor position is primarily responsible for supporting the mental health and well-being of the Mines student body through the provision of high-quality clinical, consultation and education services. This 24-hour/week position reports 3 days per week, 8 hours per day throughout the calendar year.Required working hours for the current opening are 8 AM - 5 PM in the office on Mondays and Thursdays and 8 AM - 5 PM remotely on Tuesdays.Maintain an individual clinical caseload of students to assist with developmental issues or more severe psychological concerns. Clinical services can take the form of initial intake assessments, single-sessions, brief therapy, and crisis stabilization. As appropriate, refer students to local mental health providers or other campus/community resources based on clinical judgment within the center’s scope of care. Consultation: Provide consultation to parents, faculty and staff as needed to assist with understanding of students’ psychological needs, treatment and disposition planning. Consult, collaborate and serve as a resource to key departments in the Student Life and Academic divisions on campus.Outreach (workshops/groups): Provide alternate service platforms to students with regard to mental health issues or specific program topics targeting certain populations. Participate in the center’s rotation of seminars and workshops, drop-in hours and support groups. Utilize technological platforms to provide psychoeducational and support services.Provide crisis intervention (walk-in) when necessary. regarding crisis planning, resolution and care coordination.Minimum Qualifications:Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the area of psychology, counseling or social work.Demonstrated significant and progressive experience in the mental health field with a background in clinical assessment, counseling, and triage/crisis intervention.Experience addressing issues pertinent to a diverse student population (e.g., depression, anxiety, trauma, neurodiversity, bereavement, substance abuse, eating disorders, suicide risk, family/relationship issues, identity issues and self-injury).CBT, DBT, ACT, SFBT, IFS, and somatic therapy).Preferred Qualifications:Background in higher education, stepped care or comparable short-term/multi-faceted treatment models, psychoeducational service delivery, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.Flexible health and dental care optionsGenerous sick/vacation time: 13 paid holidays per year - including a week-long winter break for entire campus.Fully vested retirement plan on first day of employment, with generous employer contributionTuition benefits (6 credits per year for employees, 50 percent discount for dependents)Free RTD EcopassAll Mines employees also have access to discount programs through the State of Colorado and free tickets for Mines Athletics home games, as well as access to the state of the art Recreation Center (fitness classes and training, swimming pool and more) and equipment rentals through the Outdoor Rec Center.
