Burris Laboratory School at Ball State University welcomes applications for an Instructor of Special Education.
This role includes overseeing individualized programming, supporting diverse learning needs, and working collaboratively with colleagues. The ideal candidate will actively support and contribute to the fulfillment of the school’s vision and mission.
Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized education programs (IEPs) for K-12 students with identified disabilities ensuring compliance with federal, state and corporation requirements.
Attends case conferences as Teacher of Record for students with disabilities.
Models best-practice instructional strategies and provides actionable feedback to Ball State University preservice teachers and graduate students in Learning Center.
Manages and assists with statewide testing programs for students with disabilities to ensure appropriate accommodations are provided and the assessments are completed in accordance with state regulations.
Provides specialized instruction and support to students with significant academic, behavioral, communication, functional, and/or adaptive needs.
Collaborate with general education teachers to support student participation and progress in the least restrictive environment.
Monitors students in a variety of educational settings (e.g. classroom, playground, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) Establishes and maintain appropriate relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff by communicating in a professional, courteous and confidential manner and adhering to Burris Laboratory School's social media policy.
Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth and attends and participates in professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, extra-curricular activities and committees.
Reports incidents (e.g. suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, zero tolerance offenses, etc.) to administrators to maintain the personal safety of students and provide a positive learning environment that adheres to state law and Ball State University policies.
Valid Indiana teaching license- K-12, Mild Interventions licensure.
Valid Indiana teaching license- K-12, Intense Interventions licensure.
Valid Indiana Teaching License K-12 Mild Interventions Licensure (Preferred Intense Interventions licensure.)
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university by date of appointment; hold or demonstrate eligibility for Indiana certification in special education by date of employment.
Master's degree in special education or related field of study from a regionally accredited university by date of appointment.
At least three years experience teaching.
