Other duties may be required and assigned.Performs custodial tasks, i.e., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting furniture; cleaning vents, fans, and walls.Performs sanitizing tasks in various facility areas, i.e., restrooms, kitchen and food areas, cafeterias.Performs physically demanding tasks requiring use of heavy custodial equipment, i.e., mopping, stripping, waxing, floor buffing. Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.Removes trash by emptying trash containers; transports materials to disposal area; recycles materials.Uses appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and productively according to instructions and established State Department of Education regulatory to ensure personal, student, public, and staff safety.Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, broken windows, broken locks.Requisitions supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.Moves heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually with assistance or by using hand trucks.Sets up, arranges, or removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.Education and/or experienceHigh School diploma or equivalent preferred supplemented by any previous experience demonstrating ability to safely and effectively operate standard facility custodial equipment, and ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Other skills and abilitiesThe ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.Working conditionsThe working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.Physical and sensory requirementsTasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing 15 feet and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials 30 pounds.
