The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Electrician in the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform installation, maintenance, and repair on a wide variety of electrical equipment used in street lighting, traffic signal control, sewage lift stations, HVAC and automation, building power distribution, fire alarm, and related systems and equipment; The Electrician has responsibility for working in all facets of the electrical trade, ensuring safe practices and operation of equipment. Electricians must demonstrate an acceptable level of competency in each of the job knowledges for electrical mathematics, basic AC and DC theory, industrial electronics, motor controls and electrical codes.
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of progressively responsible and difficult electrical experience.
Must obtain a valid Class "B" California driver's license prior to the completion of the one-year probationary period.
Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. Retirement
City employees are included in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is either 2% at age 62 (PEPRA members) or 2.7% at age 55 (Classic members).

Medical Plans
Employees who have medical coverage under another group plan may choose to waive City-provided medical coverage and receive a monthly stipend.
Dental Plan
The City provides group dental benefits through Delta Dental of California. The City contributes up to the family coverage for the plan, which covers 100% of the dental charges up to $4,000 annually per person. Employees who have dental coverage under another group plan may choose to waive City-provided dental coverage and receive a monthly stipend.
Life Insurance
The City provides employees with a $100,000 Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment policy. Employees have the option to purchase additional term life insurance up to a maximum of $300,000.
