The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for an Assistant Attorney General (1-6) in the Criminal Division. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Assistant Attorney General 1-6, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Louisiana;

Ability to travel (including overnight travel) mainly for state wide, state court appearances, but also for continuing education and other conferences, as required.

Demonstrate the ability to handle litigations in both federal and state courts;

Knowledge of collections laws, garnishments, state and federal court practice and procedure, and state agency collection practices;

Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening and editing;

The selected candidate will represent the State of Louisiana, State agencies, and State employees in legal matters as assigned. The position also assists federal, state, and local agencies in the investigation and prosecution of a wide range of criminal matters.

The duties and requirements of an Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal division shall include, but are not limited to the following:

Screens assigned cases to determine the appropriate criminal charges based on the facts, evidence, and applicable law;

Negotiates and resolves criminal cases through plea agreements or trial while exercising sound legal judgment and prosecutorial discretion;

Maintains regular communication with victims and other stakeholders to provide case updates and ensure compliance with victims' rights requirements;

Conducts legal research and prepares pleadings, motions, memoranda, briefs, opinions, correspondence, and other legal documents necessary to prosecute assigned cases;

Provides legal guidance and assistance to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies regarding criminal investigations, arrests, search warrants, and other prosecutorial matters;

Drafts Attorney General Opinions and other legal opinions when assigned;

Performs administrative duties related to the position, including maintaining required reports, case management records, travel documentation, and other assigned responsibilities;

Communicates effectively and professionally with supervisors, law enforcement agencies, victims, witnesses, court personnel, and other stakeholders regarding assigned matters;
