The Transitional Housing Placement Program (THPP) serves foster youth ages 16-18, while the Non-Minor Dependent (NMD) program supports youth aged 18-21 who are transitioning out of foster care. Both programs provide safe housing, life skills development, and case management to prepare youth for successful independent living.
Safety Net Shelter (SNS) is a licensed Runaway & Homeless Youth Prevention Center that serves youth ages 12-17 years old (18 if the youth is still in high school) who are currently dealing with family conflict, homelessness, or in need of a safe place to stay. SNS has a 20 bed capacity and provides 24/7 supervision of youth through direct care staff who are responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive environment for youth residents at all times.
Job Summary:
The Relief Staff provides on-call immediate, short-term coverage for SNS, THPP and NMD sites, ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive environment for youth residents. Relief staff may cover day, evening, weekend, or overnight shifts , supporting both minor and non-minor dependent youth in their daily routines, skill-building, and emergency needs.
This position requires flexibility, strong crisis management skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Supervise and engage both minor and non-minor dependent youth to ensure safety, structure, and compliance with program expectations.
Provide immediate coverage in cases of staff shortages, emergencies, or unplanned absences.
Serve as a positive role model, promoting respectful communication, responsibility, and independent living skills appropriate to each youth's age and developmental stage.
Support youth with daily routines such as meals, hygiene, chores, appointments, employment, and transportation (if authorized).
Monitor curfew, visitor activity, and enforce house rules consistently.
Conduct safety and security checks of the house, including bedrooms and common areas.
Document all activities, incidents, and interactions accurately in logs and communication notes.
Respond calmly and effectively to crises, emergencies, or behavioral challenges following agency protocols.
Communicate promptly with program management regarding incidents, safety concerns, or urgent needs.
Participate in training, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.

Overnight Coverage Responsibilities (as applicable)
Maintain overnight supervision of minor and non-minor dependent youth and property.
Conduct regular safety checks and curfew monitoring.
Complete accurate overnight logs and incident reports.
Respond calmly to emergencies, conflicts, or unexpected situations.
Ensure the home environment remains quiet, safe, and supportive
Please note that duties may vary depending on site and program being covered.
Education, Certifications, and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university plus two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with culturally diverse youth required.
Current CPR and First Aid Certification required (or complete within 30 days of hire). Valid California drivers license with access to a personal vehicle with current insurance that can be used for company business. Fingerprinting/background check as required by the Department of Justice and/or Title XXII regulations. TB test required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as required for reporting.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Internet research skills are a plus.

Salary Range:
~$27.00 per hour.
