Southeast Louisiana Legal Services is a non-profit that provides free, civil legal aid to low-income people throughout southeast Louisiana. We fight fairness for vulnerable people by empowering abused and neglected children, preserving housing for hard-working families, ending homelessness for disabled and veterans, protecting elderly consumers, removing barriers to access medical care, improving access to employment and education, and protecting domestic violence victims.
You can help give a voice to low-income people by supporting our efforts to increase access to the justice system. STAFF ATTORNEY - Re-Entry & Vulnerable Populations, New Orleans
This staff attorney will provide legal representation, advocacy, and community legal education in the Greater New Orleans area. Primary duties are to represent low income, unhoused, and veteran clients in Social Security cases (disability claims and appeals, retirement, overpayments, cessations, reductions, terminations, and other benefit access issues) and other public benefits matters, such as Medicaid; wills and power of attorneys; and 50% of the work will be criminal record expungements. Duties for this position may also include representing eligible clients in legal matters related to their reentry needs through the United Ways RETURN Initiative and conducting community outreach efforts
Licensed to practice law in Louisiana, pending Louisiana bar exam result.
This position will be full-time with a salary range of $54,563 - $90,563, depending on experience. Additional compensation for fluency in one or more languages other than English, which is regularly used in the position and needed by the program.
SLLS does offer reimbursement of moving expenses.
