Description:
The position involves working in the Surgical PCU.
Shift hours are 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.
Charting experience using EPIC is required.
Weekend requirements may include every other weekend or six weekend shifts in a six-week scheduling block.
All requests for time off must be included at the time of submission.
The facility is permitted to call off one shift every two weeks.
There is a requirement to work one holiday during a 13-week contract.
First-time travelers are accepted.
Local candidates may apply.
Pending licenses are accepted if the candidate has a single-state license from a non-compact state.
Required clinical skills include:
Cardiac monitoring and emergency response.
Dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
IV therapy and phlebotomy.
Blood product administration and central/peripheral line care.
Ventilator care for patients with chronic trach.
Medication administration, including cardiac drips (no titration).
Providing respiratory support with nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP.
Rapid Response and Code team activation.
Knowledge of isolation precautions and telemetry settings in various care units.
Staffing ratios typically are 1:5, aiming for a goal of 1:4.
The unit functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with a focus on bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit.
Two beds are available for chronic trach patients, which are not considered ICU level of care.
Oxygen support includes setups for CPAP and BiPAP.
Equipment used includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach supplies, and PICC lines.
IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine.
Telemetry is monitored remotely, with sitting implemented to increase patient care coverage.
Floating may be required within the skill set.
The patient population includes adults and geriatrics.
The daily census is approximately 20 patients.
Interdisciplinary support is available, including physical therapy and respiratory services.
The unit specializes in caring for various patient diagnoses and utilizes special procedures as needed.
