Registered Nurse (RN) Shift Nursing- Part time

Job Summary

Salary: Starting at $40.00 per hour. Catholic Charities of Baltimore seeks a Part Time Registered Nurse to provide nursing care within the Family Services Division in St. Vincent's Villa, a residential treatment program for children ages 5-13. Responsibilities include using the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate children with emotional and behavioral difficulties, and providing first aid for staff, volunteers, and visitors. The work schedule is 15-30 hours per week, primarily between 2 pm and 10 pm.

Responsibilities

Use the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to perform all duties.

Administer medications and treatments in accordance with evidence-based best practices and team plans, and monitor outcomes.

Assess health and provide clinical nursing care, including measuring height, weight, vital signs, and collecting lab specimens.

Assist the pediatrician with physical assessments and medical reviews, and make rounds to observe children.

Triage and assess level of need for clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors in routine, urgent, and emergency situations; provide first aid and perform CPR when needed.

Provide required TB screening and immunizations, such as flu shots, for clients and employees.

Transcribe written physician/NP orders and review phone orders accurately.

Assist in ordering, storing, and maintaining supplies and equipment, ensuring the security of health services supplies.

Document all work, contacts, procedures, and lab reports in medical records; audit charts as needed.

Obtain health history upon admission, and continuously update, validate, and clarify health information; develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans per program policy.

Communicate health-related information to families and guardians.

Educate clients, staff, and families/guardians about health care.

Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, using hand‑off communication and documenting information about children’s complaints and strengths.

Report significant activities and information to relieving staff and inform supervisors and on‑call administrators of status, problems, and required occurrence reports.

Anticipate and recognize emotional disturbance in children and families, and act to prevent crisis escalation.

Manage crisis appropriately by contracting resource staff and performing crisis intervention techniques; provide restraints if necessary, as taught in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).

During crisis, monitor and support children and staff; serve as unit coverage when needed for safety.

Assist in orienting and training new staff as assigned.

Perform health duties as needed at any CC location, any day of the week, and any shift to meet health services objectives.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

Knowledge of nursing practices including first aid, medication administration protocols, CPR, and infection control protocols.

Knowledge of medical terminology, medications, and normal growth and development for children ages 3‑15 and adults.

Knowledge of MD State and CDC guidelines/mandates for immunization; familiarity with health care resources.

Certification & Licensure

Registered Nurse in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and CARE training within six months of hire and maintained thereafter.

Adult and Pediatric CPR certification within one month of hire and maintained thereafter.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

No remote or hybrid work available.

Flexibility required to work in urgent or crisis situations.

May be exposed to resistant or aggressive client behavior requiring crisis intervention and therapeutic holds.

High risk of exposure to communicable disease; must adhere to infection control procedures.

Must move between work sites, including walking, standing, running, or traveling as needed, and lift up to 8 hours per shift.

May lift or move children, adolescents, and staff up to 50 lbs in all directions using body mechanics.

Support safe evacuation of building and maintain client safety.

Hearing and vision sufficient for effective observation and communication.
