This role provides patient centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.ResponsibilitiesRegistered Nurse Primary Responsibilities:Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients' adaptation to health changesDevelops a plan of care based on patients' disease, symptoms, and response to treatmentEducates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom managementCoordinates with inter-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of careRefers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc.Performs comprehensive initial assessment of patient, family and caregiverPerforms ongoing assessment of patient, family and caregiver as patient progresses through Transplant processMonitors patient response to therapies, including lab values and symptom assessment, in collaboration with the medical, nutrition and pharmacy staffProvides psychosocial support to patients and familiesFunctions as resource for rotating physician staff regarding standard practice and operations in the clinicReviews all orders written by the medical staffCommunicates hospital admissions to the Charge RNCoordinate home infusions provided by outside Home Infusion agencies after initial referral by Transition RNsProvide continuity of nursing care by communicating effectively with Charge, Evening, Weekend, InfusionRoom, Procedure, Triage, and Inpatient RN'sDocuments all assessments, teaching, response to therapies and plans of care in a timely mannerKeeps patient Kardex up to dateFunctions as primary telephone contact for patients and their caregiversParticipates with all disciplines in daily rounds to plan and coordinate patient carePatient and Caregiver Teaching:Provides initial education and Clinic orientation. Reviews Patient Resource Manual with patient and family at arrival visitAssumes primary responsibility for chemotherapy teaching with patients and caregiversAssumes primary responsibility for patient education regarding medications and therapies, including home infusionsAssumes primary responsibility for patient education regarding symptom managementAssumes primary responsibility for departure teaching when patient is leaving the Acute Transplant ProgramSupport for Research:Acts as patient advocate in coordination of research consent formsAssists in obtaining research data in conjunction with patient care dataMaintains a working knowledge of current protocols related to the patient population with whom they work. Participates in Committees and Task Forces to review and improve current standardsServes as a resource to other nurses caring for patients undergoing BMT transplantFlexible in incorporating patient care outside own team assignment to assist with patient care needs in other areas of clinicInforms Nurse Manager of high-risk patient situations or operational issuesCommunicates in a respectful and effective manner with other staffDemonstrates appropriate problem solving when working with other departmentsMaintaining And Developing Own Skills:QualificationsRequired:Must have current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL); Applicants that do not have previous oncology experience will be provided additional training and support.Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years.Preferred:Bachelor of Science in Nursing.Two years of nursing experience.The hourly pay range for this position is from $47.64 to $88.19 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Registered Nurses are paid on a step-scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
