Housekeeping Worker – Student Engagement & Campus Life

We are looking for a Housekeeping Worker to join the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team in Blacksburg, VA. This full‑time position ensures a clean, sanitary, and safe environment across SECL facilities, maintaining established standards of cleanliness in student lounges, offices, lobbies, stairways, restrooms, showers, windows, and other assigned venues.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and replenish supplies in assigned areas and report any facility repairs or needs to management.

Operate powered and manual cleaning equipment; mix chemicals in proper proportions according to established guidelines.

Care and handle Custodial Operations supplies, equipment, and assigned keys.

Snow and ice removal from entrances and sidewalks, raking leaves, and gathering trash from areas near buildings.

Occasionally support Event Operations Staff in the preparation of events scheduled in reservable spaces.

Floor maintenance, dusting, and removal of trash throughout SECL facilities.

Qualifications

Excellent customer service and communication skills for interaction with employees, students, and visitors.

Knowledge of commercial/industrial cleaning methods.

Ability to work independently with little supervision and safely mix chemicals with proper proportions from established guidelines.

Experience operating manual and electrically powered cleaning equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience cleaning institutional or commercial areas.

Compensation & Benefits

Base compensation starts at $33,280.00. Benefits include health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and more.

Hours per week: 40

Saturday – Wednesday 3:00 PM–11:30 PM and weekends as needed.
