Wildlife Biologist I (Hourly)

Wildlife Biologist On-Call Southern and East-Central California
The On-Call Biologist will be responsible for a range of environmental consulting services, including preconstruction field surveys, construction compliance monitoring, avian species identification and nest surveys, supporting general and focused biological field surveys, assisting with writing and reviewing biological reports and supporting documents such as Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, technical memos, FRED database forms, and providing as-needed field and office support to our local and regional Natural Resource team members.
Coordinate, plan and execute field assignments for southern and east-central California-based work. Conduct general and species-specific biological surveys and construction compliance monitoring pursuant to the relevant environmental commitments, laws, regulations, codes and/or industry standards. Document field findings in monitoring logs, reports, memos and email communications, as appropriate. Communicate routinely with client field contacts and ICF project managers and senior biologists. The on-call biologist must be able to travel to remote field sites in other counties, including but not limited to Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, San Bernadino, Riverside, Inyo, and San Diego Counties.
Given the seasonal or project-specific nature of our environmental compliance work, ICF often hires environmental professionals as "On-Call" employees. On-Call employees may work concurrent projects outside of their ICF assignment (along as their outside work does not create a conflict of interest with the work they do for ICF).
A BA/BS in Wildlife Biology, Botany, Ecology, or related discipline

• 2+ years of environmental/consulting and biological field experience.
• Must have prior experience conducting construction field compliance monitoring on 2+ projects including 6+ months total field compliance monitoring experience
• Avian nest monitoring and species identification skills with experience conducting nesting bird field surveys and avian habitat assessments on 3 or more projects with at least 2 of these projects located in the southwestern U.Experience leading all three phases of western burrowing owl protocol surveys on 3 or more projects including positive identification of individual owls in the wild

Experience conducting native special status reptile or amphibian species surveys or monitoring on 3 or more projects with positive results and identification of target species
Experience leading field surveys or trapping for small mammals on 3 or more California projects including possession of a CDFW scientific collecting permit
Basic field observation documentation/data management experience
Experience working in the environmental compliance and/or construction fields (i.e., biological or aquatic construction monitoring).
Basic botanical knowledge of east-central and southern California with demonstrated participation in 5 or more field botanical rare plant surveys and habitat mapping assessments in California of which at least 3 of these projects in southern or east-central California
Geographic Information System (GIS) software skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Ability to respond timely to deployment requests (i.e., Ability to travel to field sites in east-central and southern California and assist with field surveys and compliance monitoring in rugged, undeveloped terrain
Ability and experience conducting work in active construction sites and communicating with construction foreman and equipment operators
Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
