ASSOCIATE AUDITOR [Temporary]

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.
Agency
The Alameda County Auditor-Controller Agency is a general government agency that provides direct services to County residents as well as administrative and operational support to County departments. The Agency develops and maintains the County’s accounting, payroll, audit, tax analysis, budget and grants, contract compliance, and cost plan systems and procedures, and operates the Central Collections and Office of the Clerk-Recorder departments.
Position
Under general supervision, the position involves routine and moderately difficult clerical work requiring independent judgment within established policies and procedures. Incumbents respond to public inquiries, maintain various records, monitor and compile data from multiple sources, and perform related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Option I
Two (2) years of full‑time experience in the Clerk II classification or an equivalent or higher level clerical classification in Alameda County classified service.
Option II
Two (2) years of full‑time clerical experience, including one (1) year performing duties of a complex and technical nature applying legal statutes and rules that require expertise and specialized knowledge.
Substitution
One (1) year of education from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis; one (1) year of education equals either 30 semester or 45 quarter units.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
Business arithmetic
Business correspondence, filing, and standard office equipment operations
Techniques and practices for dealing with individuals from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic groups, including stressful or hostile contact
Modern office methods and equipment, including spreadsheets, word processing, and centralized financial and personnel/payroll programs (preferably ALCOLINK/HRMS)
Ability to:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and co‑workers
Prioritize work and coordinate several activities to meet critical deadlines
Operate common modern office machines, including calculator, computer, printer, and fax
Locate and analyze data in large accounting and payroll systems, such as those maintained by the Auditor Agency
Prepare periodic and special accounting and payroll reports
Identify and correct errors in mathematical computations and financial/payroll documents
Work independently when given specific instructions
Apply rules and regulations to specific cases
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Research and correct documents for errors
Maintain accurate records
Examination Components
Review of applicants’ applications and supplemental questionnaire to verify possession of minimum requirements.
Written component (qualifying only, pass/fail).
Oral interview (100% of final examination score; may include situational exercises).
CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.
Recruitment and Selection Plan
Deadline for Filing: 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Review of Minimum Qualifications: Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Written Examination: Monday, June 15, 2026 and Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Oral Examination / Hiring Interview: Week of July 27, 2026 (combined oral examination and hiring interview may serve as final selection interview).
