RDA/DENTAL ASSISTANCE

Position Summary
Dental Assistant position is a full-time, non-exempt, entry-level role responsible for assisting dental providers in delivering high-quality oral healthcare services. Responsibilities include assisting during procedures, sterilizing instruments, preparing operatory rooms, maintaining patient records, inventory of dental instruments, and ensuring a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities

Greet all patients and visitors; assist them with questions and direct them appropriately.

Assist patients in resolving minor difficulties, answer questions, and give directions authorized by providers.

Assist the front office with entry-level duties as needed.

Maintain adequate patient flow and assist providers in completing records accurately.

Receive and place necessary clinical telephone calls.

Assist dental providers chair-side.

Prepare the operatory for treatment per protocols and provider directions.

Perform dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations, department directives, and protocols.

Perform dental coronal polish per regulations and protocols.

Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques and post-operative care instructions.

Assist with laboratory procedures, including pouring and trimming models, fabricating temporary crowns, and taking impressions.

Maintain sterility of reusable instruments per manufacturer instructions and department policies.

Maintain department equipment per manufacturer instructions and policies.

Maintain all department areas in compliance with infection control, exposure control, and safety protocols.

Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and list shortages for ordering.

Ensure proper disposal of contaminated materials per department directives, health center policies, and regulations.

Use personal protective equipment and universal precautions in full compliance with exposure control plans.

Fully comply with federal, state, local, and health center rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures, including personnel, safety, public health, and confidentiality requirements.

Travel to other dental locations to support organizational needs.

Qualifications

Certification to perform CPR and AED through courses following AHA and Red Cross guidelines.

Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations.

High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.

Minimum two (2) years of dental assistant experience.

Dental Assistant Certificate required.

Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) certificate from the Arizona Dental Assisting National Board required.

Coronal Polishing (CP) certificate from the Arizona Dental Assisting National Board required.

Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and procedures.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Intermediate computer proficiency in Windows, MS Office, and Patient Management System.

Advanced office skills, including typing and telephone etiquette.

Valid Arizona driver’s license.

Additional Skills

Ability to communicate in more than one language.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical demands include sitting for long periods, standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel objects, reaching with hands and arms, climbing steps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, speaking or hearing, smelling, managing stress, and lifting up to 25 pounds without assistance or up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment includes exposure to weather conditions while traveling to clinic sites, moderate noise levels, and potential health hazards such as contagious diseases and blood‑borne pathogens.
