ASSISTANT PROSECUTING ATTORNEY I

This Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) position is located in Laredo, Texas.

The selected AUSA will prosecute a wide range of federal criminal and civil matters in the Criminal Division, including organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drug offenses, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white‑collar crime. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as the attorney’s training and experience progress.

Satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax, and drug testing.

Registration with Selective Service for male applicants born after December31,1959, or documentation of exemption.

Residence in the district or within 25 miles of the Laredo office.

Strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, rapid analytical ability, high‑volume courtroom experience, outstanding organizational, time‑management, and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. Candidates should be computer‑proficient, self‑sufficient in preparing legal correspondence and pleadings, and able to work collaboratively with fellow AUSAs, support staff, and investigative agencies.

Pay ranges from $79,718.00 to $197,100.00, based on the number of years of professional attorney experience and locality. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package: paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System.

Relocation expenses are not authorized. Average travel is 1 to 5 nights per month.
