Must-Have: Critical care experience required. Experience in a hospital with 300+ beds. Respiratory therapists will be the first line for intubating patients. Interviews will be conducted with internal nursing staff. Therapists will perform an average of 550 minutes of therapy per shift. Staff will manage an average of 13-15 patients per shift. Common patient disease processes include COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, and cancers. Duties include all respiratory therapy responsibilities such as nebulizer treatments, airway management, and ventilator care. In the ICU, therapists will place A lines, manage blood gases, intubate patients, and perform bronchoscopies. The average number of therapists on duty is 11 during the day and 10-11 at night based on unit needs. Assignments are unit-based, with specific considerations for ICU and floor therapists. Critical care therapists are expected to confidently manage adult ICU patients and ventilators. Shifts typically begin between 6:45 AM and PM. A hospitalist or intensivist is available in-house 24/7. Patient types will vary from adults to pediatrics, with NICU RTs operating under a different manager.
