Role: Electrical Design Engineer – Power Distribution & Utilities

The AES Group Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support one of our clients in the power and utilities industry.
This role will design, analyze, and deliver electric distribution projects for major utility organizations. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems, utility engineering standards, power system analysis, and client-facing project delivery.
Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems operating between 4 kV and 34 kV.
Deliver distribution engineering projects for investor-owned utilities and electric operating companies.
Apply client engineering standards, specifications, construction practices, and documentation requirements.
Support distribution planning, capacity analysis, reliability improvements, system reinforcement, and infrastructure upgrades.
Coordinate with utility representatives, municipalities, field teams, permitting groups, and internal stakeholders.
Prepare and review calculations, drawings, reports, design packages, and technical deliverables.
Ensure deliverables meet quality, safety, regulatory, engineering, and client requirements.
Improve engineering templates, procedures, technical standards, and delivery practices.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen project quality.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum 5 years of experience in electric utilities, power delivery, distribution engineering, or utility consulting.
Experience designing overhead or underground electric distribution systems.
Knowledge of utility standards, construction practices, design documentation, and project delivery.
Experience with CYME, Synergi Electric, ETAP, or comparable power system software.
Ability to work directly with clients, technical teams, and field personnel.
Experience supporting an investor-owned utility or electric operating company.
Familiarity with Illinois or other regulated utility markets.
Experience with urban underground, network, or complex distribution systems.
Familiarity with utility GIS, work management, and asset management platforms.
