Hourly Registrar

Position OverviewThe trauma registrar is responsible for high-quality data with high-quality data entry from the United Health Services trauma program in to the trauma registry. This collection is done through abstraction from patient records, retrospectively and concurrently whenever possible. Other tasks could include data analysis and validation, report generation, research assistance, and meeting various submission requirements to the Department of Health, Bureau of EMS for inclusion in the New York State Trauma Registry and the ACS Trauma Quality Program. The registrar assures the integrity and quality of registry data that are used for prevention, PIPS, and other essential aspects of the trauma program. (The trauma registrar reports to the Trauma Program Manager, and works closely with the HIM department, Trauma PI nurse, and other trauma team members.Primary Department, Division, or Unit:UHS Emergency and Trauma ServicesPrimary Work Shift:DayRegular Scheduled Weekly Hours:20Compensation Range:$21.31 - $30.90 per hour, depending on experienceThis position is not eligible for benefits.-Job ResponsibilitiesAbstract trauma patient records according to inclusion criteria to ensure accurate and compliant data capture within the trauma registryEnter and maintain high-quality trauma registry data using registry software to support reporting, research, and performance improvement initiativesValidate registry data through internal checks, TQIP validation, and inter-rater reliability review to ensure data integrity and readiness for submissionApply AIS and ICD-10 coding standards to support accurate injury classification and regulatory complianceGather missing patient data from pre-hospital providers and referring facilities to ensure complete trauma recordsGenerate and present trauma registry reports to support clinical decision-making, program evaluation, and organizational goalsCollaborate with trauma program leadership, HIM, and clinical team members to align registry activities with patient care, prevention, and quality improvement prioritiesMinimum Required:Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or another allied health fieldMust complete AIS coding and ATS registrar class within 12 months of hireCertified Specialist in Trauma Registry within two (2) years of HirePreferred:UHS provides healthcare and medical services for two-thirds of the region’s population, produces $1.3 billion a year in total economic impact, and boasts a workforce of more than 6,300 employees and providers.Whether you provide direct patient care or support behind the scenes, you are part of a shared purpose: to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.
