The role emphasizes ISO 9001:2015 compliance, supplier risk management, and the development and maintenance of risk-based receiving inspection systems, particularly for heavy industrial components such as gears, castings, forgings, machined parts, and heat-treated components.Essential FunctionsWork cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Suppliers, and CustomersDevelop, implement, and maintain supplier quality requirements in accordance with ISO 9001:2015Conduct supplier qualification, audits, and periodic surveillance activitiesEstablish and maintain risk-based receiving inspection and sampling systems based on supplier performance, product criticality, and supplier process capability/quality historyCollect and analyze supplier quality data to evaluate performance and riskDrive root cause analysis and corrective actions related to supplier nonconformances (SCARs)Initiate supplier containment actions and support disposition of nonconforming materialReview and approve supplier manufacturing and inspection documentation (control plans, PPAP, FAI, capability studies)Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, customer, and industry requirementsSupport customer, regulatory, and third-party audits involving supplier quality activitiesSupport new supplier introduction and supplier development initiativesReview and approve quality-related changes affecting suppliers (ECOs, deviations, waivers)Any other task assigned by supervisor or managementQualificationsMinimum QualificationsExperience: 2+ years of experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer or Quality Engineer in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environmentKnowledge: Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 requirements, supplier quality systems, inspection methods, risk assessment, and corrective action processesTrained ISO 9001:2015 or equivalent internal auditorSkills/Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to develop risk-based inspection strategies; effective communication with suppliers and internal teamsTechnical Preference: Experience with gears, castings, forgings, machining, and heat treatment processesFamiliarity of nondestructive test (NDT) methods: FPI, MPI, LP, RT and VTEducation/Certification: BA or BS degree in Quality, Mechanical engineering, Manufacturing engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related fieldPreferred QualificationsExperience auditing suppliers to ISO 9001:2015 and/or equivalent standardsProficiency in establishing risk-based receiving and dock-to-stock inspection systemsWorking knowledge of GD&T and engineering print interpretationExperience with statistical tools and software (e.g., Minitab)Lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving experience (5-Why, 8D, Fishbone)ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP)Working ConditionsStandard office and manufacturing environmentsFrequent interaction with supplier machine shops, foundries, and industrial manufacturing facilitiesWill require travel to supplier facilities approximately 10% of the timeManufacturing environments may require use of PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoesMay be exposed to environmental conditions such as loud noise, temperature extremes, dust, or fumesPhysical RequirementsStanding: ~20% | Sitting: ~80% | Lifting: up to 50 pounds | Mental/Visual: extended computer use and detailed inspection reviewThe company reserves the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
