Writing Instructors - Part Time

The New Braunfels Youth Collaborative’s (NBYC) mission is to inspire and uplift the next generation by providing dynamic and inclusive out-of-school time activities and resources to teens. At the New Braunfels Youth Collaborative, we are building a bridge between school and home through the creation of the Mill Street Youth Center. A safe and supportive space, the Center will welcome all middle school and high school-aged youth in New Braunfels during their out-of-school time (after school, weekends, school holidays, summer).
GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision of the Program Director/Supervisor, this position assists with administrative and operational activities of the Mill Street Youth Center including programs, special events and activities. Responsibilities include the promotion and coordination of progressive and innovative teen programs and events.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Assists in ensuring the delivery of high quality and consistent programs, events and leagues.
Assists with planning, organizing, facilitating, and instructing programs as approved by the Supervisor to meet teen needs; coordinated in alignment with strategic objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws.
Acts as an onsite monitor for programs and activities.
Efficiently utilizes social-emotional skills to identify and address behavioral issues and notify management of any escalating issues.
Provides effective and courteous customer service to facility guests, program participants, and general public.
Effectively implements and promotes techniques of conflict resolution & de-escalation with youth.
Engages and supports volunteers who assist with the implementation of program activities.
Assists in promoting and coordinating special events, including event setup and tear down.
Assists in managing a variety of administrative activities including cash management; operating computer registration/reservation system.
Maintains facility cleanliness and is active in presenting a clean, comfortable, and safe environment; responsible for reporting potential and existing safety issues or concerns to supervisors to ensure patron safety.
Takes responsibility for assigned equipment and supplies.
Assist in transporting youth after school and/or on field trips and ensuring all youth are supervised and accounted for.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Must complete and pass a comprehensive background check.
Must be at least 18 years or older, 21years or older is preferred.
Minimum 6 months of experience working with youth preferred.
Must possess good character and decision-making skills.
Must possess a sincere interest in children, maturity, self-control, and sound judgment.
Ability to communicate effectively with peers, members, and management.
Required Licenses or Certifications Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
First Aid and CPR certifications are required and can be obtained within six months of hiring.
Must be able to pass drug screening, criminal and driving background check
Required Knowledge of Operational characteristics for services and activities of youth development, mentorship, leadership development, athletics, STEM, nutrition, etc.
Principles and practices of recreation, mentorship, leadership development, athletics, STEM, nutrition, etc. planning and coordination.
Principles and practices of customer service.
Federal and State safety laws and regulations.
Required Skill in Interpreting customer needs and expectations and solving customer service and public relations issues.
Analyzing problems, providing alternatives, and identifying solutions in support of established goals.
Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with team members, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
Operating and maintaininga personal computer utilizing point of sale and reservation/registration softwareand communications equipment.
Effectively managing cash handling and reporting processes to comply with custodial duties.
Effective, clear, and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT Employees must be able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear.
Employees are regularly required to sit, work on computer; think clearly, and communicate effectively
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust your focus with good hand-eye coordination.
Maintain emotional control under stress and work with interruptions and deadlines
Employees must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
TIMES WORK WILL BE PERFORMED This is a part-time position. The agency’s hours of operation are extended and non-traditional and may vary based on office and program location and/or stakeholder requirements. Employees are asked to work the schedule that is best suited to the achievement of deliverables and stakeholder/funder requirements based on the agency’s business hours, or as required by stakeholder and contractual requirements.
Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.
Prior approval from supervisor is required for overtime.
Physical on-site presence, including regular attendance and punctuality, is an essential function of this position. Any changes or adjustments to your assigned work schedule or shift hours must be approved by your supervisor in advance.
This position requires weekend work.
SALARY AND BENEFITS Starting pay: $15-18 per hour (dependent upon qualifications)
