This Phlebotomist I role focuses on safely and accurately collecting, processing, and handling patient specimens while supporting smooth laboratory workflow. You assist with blood draws and other specimen collections, ensure proper labeling and storage, maintain accurate records, and contribute to troubleshooting and process improvement to keep operations efficient and compliant with established procedures.

Perform venipuncture and blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles in a safe, accurate, and professional manner.

• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients, ensuring they understand what to expect.
• Verify all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the original orders or scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as needed to support a clean and safe work area.
• Update patient information accurately in the system or on records to ensure complete and current documentation.
• Assist with troubleshooting issues related to specimen collection, labeling, processing, and workflow.
• Participate in training activities and contribute recommendations to improve workflow and overall efficiency in the laboratory or collection area.

Demonstrated experience performing phlebotomy and blood draws.

• Skill in collecting and storing specimens, including blood, urine, and fecal samples, following established procedures.
• Strong attention to detail when checking test requisitions or computer labels against orders to ensure complete accuracy.
• Ability to clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients.
• Experience recording maintenance data and performing decontamination tasks in a clinical or laboratory setting.
• This role operates in a clinical or laboratory environment focused on safe and accurate specimen collection and processing. You work with venipuncture equipment, including straight and butterfly needles, centrifuges for specimen processing, and systems or tools for labeling and tracking specimens. The position involves handling blood and other biological samples such as urine and fecal specimens while following strict safety, decontamination, and storage protocols. You can expect a structured workflow guided by established procedures, with attention to maintaining proper temperatures and conditions for specimen storage and ensuring accurate documentation and transport of samples.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waldorf, MD.
