Patient Service Center Float Phlebotomists

Patient Service Center Float Phlebotomists work in multiple Patient Service Centers (PSCs) staffed by Beth Israel Lahey Health Phlebotomy Services, as needs arise, to: (a) cover for PSC Phlebotomists' Paid Time Off, other absences, and FLMAs, (b) cover for vacant PSC Phlebotomist positions, (c) reduce patient wait times in PSCs that have longer wait times than desirable, and (d) facilitate the opening of new lab Patient Service Centers. As a Float Phlebotomist, you will have the opportunity to gain a vast amount of experience, working with a variety of patients, team members, and health care providers. Provides training to phlebotomists to ensure competency.

Provides data input for the payroll system in the absence of Supervisor and Phlebotomy Leaders.

Acts as a technical resource for all difficult Phlebotomy blood draws for the institution.

Ensures rounds are completed as scheduled and provides assistance, as needed, to maintain timelines of routine and STAT blood draws.

On a daily basis, interacts and communicates with customers including patients, site office manager, physicians, and medical assistants.

Provides input for performance appraisals.

High School diploma or GED required.

• Registration Phlebotomy Certificate preferred.
• 1-3 years related work experience required.
• Basic familiarity with computers.
• Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Written Communications: Ability to read, and write in English in order to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients, families and other medical center staff; Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.

Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Social/Environmental Requirements:

Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions

Health Care Status: HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.-Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

Visual clarity Physical Requirements:

Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus.

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
