The Senior Technical Writing Specialist is responsible for creating, planning, writing and editing complex operational, instructional, interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs), maintenance or test procedures. This will entail documenting engineering processes and specifications by editing software developer and engineering staff's notes and procedures and applying formatting in order to support the writing and publication of hardware and software test procedures. Additionally, you'll work in a team environment with other writers, providing feedback and critiquing work in order to help develop leadership skills, documentation skills and expertise with production tools and projects.Write and edit technical documentation in various formats (e.g.,.PDF, HTML, and XML/SGML-tagged IETMs).Maintain established technical documentation lifecycle, to include review cycles and hardware and/or software update cycles.Perform quality assurance to ensure technical and grammatical accuracy of documentation.Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) during development and editing to ensure technical accuracy of documentation.Preferred English or Technical Writing degree.Proficient with Microsoft Office products (including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).Experience using an XML editor (e.g., Understanding of the application and usage of S1000D Applicability.Understanding of a repository-based content management system (e.g., Experience with S1000D IETM Data Display (SIDD) publishing tool, HTML, XHTML, and XML.A Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or field, or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degreeSolid knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammarStrong written communication skills and the ability to tailor communication to target audience through effective listening and interviewing skillsSolid understanding of DoD MIL standards and style guides and the ability to adhere to and implement such standards to technical documentationWhat sets you apart:Strives to grow expertise in the fundamentals of their job (e.g. production tools, projects, DoD MIL STD, IETMS, etc.)Flexible schedules with every other Friday off work, if desired (9/80 schedule).Competitive benefits, including 401k matching, flex time off, paid parental leave, healthcare benefits, health & wellness programs, employee resource and social groups, and moreSee more at gdmissionsystems.This position is on-site 100%.
