Head of Finance (Full-Time)

Boston MedFlight (BMF) is a nonprofit, CAMTS-accredited critical care transport service that has supported the Massachusetts EMS system and community hospitals across New England for over 40 years. The organization provides high-quality regional critical care transport for emergent patients, regardless of their ability to pay. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Boston MedFlight relies on third-party reimbursement, support from its consortium hospitals, and fundraising to sustain operations. Consortium members include Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, and Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. The Director of Finance is a full-time, on-site role based in Greater Boston, responsible for leading all financial planning and management activities for Boston MedFlight. This role oversees budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with the organization’s strategic goals. The Director of Finance manages accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and compliance with nonprofit and healthcare-related regulations. The role collaborates with executive leadership and department heads to develop financial strategies, analyze performance, support grant and fundraising initiatives, and provide data-driven recommendations. The Director of Finance also prepares materials for the Board of Directors, coordinates annual audits, and maintains strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.

Demonstrated expertise in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting for nonprofit or healthcare organizations.

Strong accounting and reporting skills, including general ledger management, financial statement preparation, and audit coordination.

Knowledge of nonprofit finance, compliance, and regulatory requirements, including experience with grants, reimbursement, and cost reporting.

Proficiency with financial software and tools (e.g., ERP or accounting systems, spreadsheets, and data analysis applications).

Proven leadership and team management abilities, with experience supervising finance or accounting staff.

Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA, MSA) or CPA certification is preferred.

Experience in healthcare, emergency medical services, or mission-driven nonprofit organizations is highly beneficial.
