Fabrication Machinist (Night Shift)

Primary Function

This night shift position involves 3x12 hour shifts Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 6:30 am. The machinist will operate machining centers, edit programs to improve productivity, detect programming errors during machine setup, work independently, and train less‑experienced machinists. The Machinist III must identify fixturing needs and tooling requirements, set up CNC centers for complex parts using 3, 4, and 5‑axis mills or lathes, and maintain tight tolerances.

Essential Functions

Machine simple to complex parts made from aluminum, steel, stainless steel, bronze, and other materials.

Create parts per customer requirements, manufacturer specifications, blueprints, and schematics.

Ensure raw material meets job routers and technical data.

Verify safety mechanisms such as guards and shields are installed and functional before operating machinery.

Use equipment such as drill presses, milling machines, and lathes.

Use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.

Move materials throughout the shop by hand or with lifting equipment.

Properly position metal on equipment and verify measurements before cutting.

Regulate machining by utilizing machine instrumentation, adjusting controls to meet production needs.

Meet production deadlines by adhering to the manufacturing schedule.

Perform post‑manufacturing inspection to ensure quality and specification compliance.

Interpret and apply MIL‑SPEC standards.

Perform all duties safely, using required PPE such as gloves, goggles, and face shields.

Maintain a safe, clean work area free of clutter and debris.

Assist less experienced operators with best machine practices and setup.

Troubleshoot machines and tools for operational deficiencies and perform emergency repairs when required.

Set up and operate CNC milling machines, making necessary speed and feed adjustments to achieve highest quality and productivity.

Other duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. The position carries the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Beginner to intermediate computer skills for timecards and data entry.

Ability to learn new computer software related to machine programming.

Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals.

Cooperate effectively with all management levels and staff.

Trustworthy to handle confidential information routinely.

Follow processes safely and efficiently.

Communicate issues to management.

Understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to company goals.

Perform basic and intermediate mathematics, converting measurements between units.

Multitask effectively.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, trade school certificate, or equivalent.

Minimum 5 years CNC machining experience, or 1 year MasterCAM programming experience plus 4 additional years CNC milling experience.

7+ years of manual machining can supersede the minimum CNC requirement.

Set up a CNC center to machine complex parts using 3, 4, and 5‑axis mills or lathes.

Edit CNC programs at the machine.

Maintain tight tolerances with various metal types.

Pass a drug and background screening.

Obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
