High School School Dean of Students
Independent Educational Consultants Association
The Barstow School seeks a Dean of Students who is committed to fostering inclusion and belonging among our school’s student population which draws from 70 zip codes. The ideal candidate exudes a genuine love of working with young people and manages student life and accountability with a balance of compassion, firmness, and trust. Reporting to the Upper School Division Director, the Dean of Students is a pivotal leadership role.
Develop, coordinate, and manage budgets for community-building events, trips, and student life programming
Serve on the school’s leadership team and contribute to strategic conversations about student experience and school culture
Collaborate closely with the School Counselor on student psychological and social health concerns
Build empathetic and transparent partnerships with parents and guardians, administrators and colleagues, bringing exceptional communication and steadiness to conversations
Carry some teaching responsibilities based on school staffing needs
Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related field preferred
Demonstrated success building strong relationships with students and families
Possess a comprehensive understanding of the developmental needs of high school‑aged students
