Collaborate closely with data scientists and visualisation experts to produce relevant data and interactive visualisations that enhance the narrative.
Develop arguments based on data and research, maintaining scientific nuance and honesty in reporting evidence.
Participate in the editorial process by providing feedback on colleague drafts and helping to shape the publication’s agenda.
Take full ownership of article projects, from conception to publication, showing high initiative and independent work.
Strong track record of single‑authored public writing for a general audience, demonstrating clear, engaging, and data‑driven storytelling.
Good understanding of statistics with the ability to interpret and critically engage with a variety of data sources.
Ability to write across a wide range of global topics, demonstrating editorial judgment and an eye for high‑impact content.
Commitment to the values and mission of Our World in Data and a demonstrated interest in global issues.
Personal Characteristics
Open to editorial feedback and engaged in an iterative writing process.
Compensation and Contract
Full‑time, flexible hours - part‑time arrangements possible for the right candidate.
£Location: primarily Oxford, United Kingdom, but remote work is available. visa sponsorship may be considered.
Application Process
Application is open until an offer is made. Selected candidates are invited to a remote interview and a preparatory exercise.
Successful candidates will complete a paid writing residency, producing two sample articles on agreed topics.
Completion of the residency and second article can lead to a formal contract offer.
Submit CV, links to three of your articles, a short data insight (title ≤ 100 characters, body ≤ 850 characters), and links to any public social media or blog.
Articles must be published in English before 1 April 2026; academic articles, theses, or social media threads are not accepted.
Interview process and artefacts may include multimedia elements such as data visualisations.
