Communications Coordinator

Strengthens the Center for Congregations (CfC) by increasing awareness of and engagement with its many activities and offerings, from education to grants to conferences. The CfC helps Indiana congregations grow stronger by offering guidance, practical tools, and financial support to address their challenges and opportunities. We work across five regional offices, several current initiatives funded by Lilly Endowment, as well as websites like the Congregational Resource Guide ( on a national level to support this mission.

This is an entry-to-mid level role that is ideal for someone who is highly organized, deeply attentive to detail, and energized by work that is both mission-centered and service-oriented, especially in an environment that prioritizes listening first, practical help, and respectful collaboration.

The overall goal of this role is to provide the Director of Communications with a means of executing the many communications objectives of the Center in alignment with the strategic planning they perform. This role would include activities related to social media, email, advertising, public relations, events and data analysis. You will be provided with opportunities to learn from experimentation and data review, train in areas that support the Center’s work, and work alongside likeminded communications professionals across the nonprofit landscape.

The Center for Congregations has a policy of not using generative AI tools in any public-facing communications work, which comprises all of the below responsibilities. Reports to: Director of Communications

External Communication

Congregational leaders, clergy, and other similarly aligned nonprofits are aware of and actively engaged with our programs, resources and communications.

Managing a combined social media inbox on a daily basis and responding to outreach as necessary.

Upholding brand consistency across all marketing materials and channels, via brand reviews, copy editing and fact-checking.

Contributing to copy and graphics for website updates.

Building new webpages (using a pre-existing template) alongside the web development team.

Editing or writing blog content to provide a more in-depth understanding of what we do, and how we do it.

Assist in developing strategies to boost overall brand reach and engagement.

Assist with paid campaigns across social, search, display and more (training provided).

Assist in analyzing communications performance across platforms to ensure KPI benchmarks and other identified goals are being met or surpassed.

Internal Communication

To ensure the Center remains well‑informed and supported with reliable, clear internal communication.

Proactive organization of meetings, email threads and Teams group chats to align staff around a communications objective.

Project Management

Ensuring the Center’s communications work continues to be timely, relevant and reliable.

Maintain communication calendars, assets, and project timelines across concurrent initiatives.

Familiarity with a task management platform like Asana or Monday is ideal but not required.

Assist in managing incoming communications/marketing requests and assigning the appropriate solutions.

Providing Center staff and the public with an ongoing series of branded items to increase awareness and provide an organized, well‑branded presence at any event.

Assisting in managing and storing existing and new inventory as well as performing stock checks for the events team prior to events.

Collaborating on research into new types of promotional materials.

Ensuring events have the appropriate materials for each event by communicating and documenting needs and preparing/ordering materials as needed.

Helping the events team prepare materials for transport to events.

Capturing photography/video for social media

We work with a wide range of traditions, contexts, and communities—so humility and care matter.

You proactively balance regular communications work with ad‑hoc requests.

You have a high tolerance for situations or projects that might change or move quickly, or that might have seasons of greater intensity, while managing processes with clarity and attention to detail.

1–4 years of experience in social media, writing, content operations, and communications.

Prior marketing experience or related internships.

Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Experience with a project management software preferred; Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Experience with Canva and the Adobe Suite is preferred.
