Diagnostic Radiographer

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic x-ray procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses x-ray technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. Performs all types of diagnostic x-ray procedures to include radiography, fluoroscopy, portable diagnostic and portable fluoroscopy; practices radiation safety for patients, staff and self.
3. Uses sterile technique as required.
4. Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors.
5. Performs venipunctures.
6. Competently operates all diagnostic x-ray equipment and support systems to include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS and offsite Radiologist Services
7. Utilizes department computer systems, files, PACS, to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
8. Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
9. Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and proper communication with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care.
10. Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
11. Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as assigned.
12. Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies coordinator of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
13. Keeps area properly supplied.
14. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in-services, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities; attends departmental, educational and hospital committee meetings as required.
15. Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
16. Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal and state regulatory requirements.
2. Knowledge of radiologic positioning, and use of technical factors and radiation safety practices.
3. Skill in operating radiologic equipment, image capturing devices, PACS and other related systems.
4. Ability to react appropriately and perform work under stressful and emergent situations.
5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
6. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
7. Ability to interact effectively with patients, family, staff, and physicians.
8. Ability to care for diverse patients throughout the age continuum.
9. Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in the work environment.
10. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and patient safety.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of a school of Radiologic Technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required. Valid State of Nebraska Medical Radiographer license required.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
