Lead Maintenance Painter

Lead is accountable for meeting paint production schedules and quality standards. This position has great emphasis on highly skilled processes and requires a high level of skills to help with troubleshooting and problem resolution. This position must also lead the team in initiatives related to safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Fulfill all painting requirements, including parts painting, to complete vehicle paint in both solid and metallic colors.Responsibilities:Assign and oversee daily work assignments for the hourly production team to ensure schedule commitments are met.Review department work to verify technical accuracy and compliance with customer requirements.Coordinate and manage technical training for new hires.Manage the daily tool control process and ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained.Ensure communication with engineers, maintenance, and purchasing is documented via email.Order required tools and parts through SAP as needed.Address quality issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented with operators.Inspect employees' work to confirm it meets established quality standards.Follow all procedures for quality lasting paint finishMaintain spray equipment to meet operational standards and follow the hazardous waste disposal program and the fire prevention programEnsure that hazardous waste that is handled is placed in proper containersTrain other painters both in production and qualityRetain information taught about chemicals and related items, and proper usage of the sameEnsure cleaning, detailing, and decaling tasks are completed by instructionFunction with a minimal amount of supervisionClose attention to detailMeet standards of safety and 5SPromote the use and applications of Lean Manufacturing continuous improvement tools as part of the cultureBe compliant with the rules of conduct and attendance per the company handbookEstablish and maintain cooperative working relationshipsRequirements (education, experience, travel, physical, work environment): Manufacturing, automotive production line experience preferred Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English Ability to run dual-action sanders, grinders, and miscellaneous hand tools Ability to spray primers with an air paint system Able to read and interpret shop orders to determine the color required Able to determine the proper surface condition for acceptance of paint and prepare it if required Must have full knowledge of quality requirements for a product's acceptable finish paint Must be able to spray the entire vehicle body with the acceptable quality level Must have general knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards Ability to read and use linear and other measuring devices Able to consistently apply automotive coating to an acceptable level Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards Education and Experience: Painter III 3-5+ years of experience in automotive paint application Familiar with all aspects of paint blending, repair, and application of automotive coating, as well as the proper usage of products Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job.
